Why Start BrainCheck? “I looked in the mirror and asked what problem am I uniquely positioned to solve, given my skills and experiences. Through a winding process of finding product-market fit (and some serendipity), we created BrainCheck — a solution for doctors to deploy personalized cognitive healthcare at scale.”
Why Seek Venture Capital? “Building a product and a team out of an idea or technology requires capital. We started with a small seed round, and as we built more value, we raised more capital to fuel our growth.”
Have you seen women GPs bring a different perspective to the table? Do you think a woman’s perspective is valuable to this market? “Building a successful business is about understanding the customer. In healthcare, and especially in cognitive healthcare, the majority of patients are women, the majority of the caregivers are women, and increasingly, the majority of doctors (51% in ages 45 and under) are women, and so women’s perspectives are essential.”
Why True Wealth Ventures? “I didn’t seek out women investors, but I didn’t realize what I was missing until I found them. Sara and Kerry are not only super smart, but also extremely generous with their time and mindshare. Kerry serves on our board, and is also my go-to person for advice on everything from strategic decisions to running effective board meetings. Kerry goes all-out, sharing her deep network of contacts, astute ‘people’ insights, and the overall wisdom that she has accumulated through working with hundreds of startups. I feel that True Wealth has not only invested capital, but also invested their expertise in the success of our company and in my success as a CEO.”
Words of Wisdom: “Life’s too short not to work with people you like, and building a startup will take a significant chunk of your life. Find people that you respect, that will complement and challenge you, and that will make the journey and its inevitable ups and downs an enjoyable ride.”
