StartOut Austin is thrilled to welcome VIvienne Ming to be the keynote speaker for an event focused on diversity in entrepreneurship! Named one of 10 Women to Watch in Tech in 2013 by Inc. Magazine, Vivienne Ming is a theoretical neuroscientist, technologist and entrepreneur. She co-founded Socos, where machine learning and cognitive neuroscience combine to maximize students’ life outcomes. Vivienne is also a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience, where she pursues her research in neuroprosthetics.
In her free time, Vivienne has developed a predictive model of diabetes to better manage the glucose levels of her diabetic son and systems to predict manic episodes in bipolar suffers. She sits on the boards of The Palm Center, Emozia, Engender, and Genderis Inc., and is a Chief Science Advisor to Cornerstone Capital, Platypus Institute, Shiftgig, and Bayes Impact. Dr. Ming also speaks frequently on issues of LGBT inclusion and gender in technology. Vivienne lives in Berkeley, CA, with her wife (and co-founder) and their two children.

Kerry Rupp, True Wealth Ventures
Kerry Rupp is a General Partner at True Wealth Ventures, a new early-stage venture capital fund investing in women-led businesses that develop consumer health and sustainable products & technologies. In addition, Kerry advises clients on innovation & strategy, leveraging over 20 years’ experience launching and growing startups and new lines of business, An active start-up coach, Kerry is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship, innovation, and early-stage investing and serves as judge at startup competitions nationwide. She is also an instructor for the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program.
Rena Pacheco-Theard, Prepify
Rena Pacheco-Theard is CEO and co-founder of Prepify (www.prepify.me), a startup offering free, online college guidance and SAT / ACT prep for high school students to increase economic diversity. She is a recent MBA graduate from MIT Sloan, and she holds a Master of Public Affairs from The University of Texas’ LBJ School. Previously, Rena co-founded a soccer and academic non-profit, City FC, and worked in international development and public sector consulting with organizations such as Bono’s ONE Campaign and Deloitte.
