Announcement of the 3rd Investment from Fund II

We are pleased to announce our third investment out of Fund II. We led the oversubscribed round, carved out a co-investment opportunity for our LPs, and Sara is taking a board seat

De Oro Devices makes mobility assistive devices to allow people with mobility disorders to walk confidently and safely. Their beachhead market is in Parkinson’s Disease where they help overcome freezing of gait, one of the most common and most debilitating symptoms of Parkinson’s. De Oro’s initial patent-pending device, NexStride, combines a green laser line visual cue and a metronome auditory cue into a small portable device that can attach to any cane, walker, or walking pole.

CEO & Co-Founder Sidney Collin (in photo) is now based in Austin, though the company was founded in San Luis Obispo, where Sidney completed her BS degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Electrical Engineering from Cal Poly and was named to the Pacific Coast Business Times’ “40 Under 40” list.

Recognition for our Impact Investing Approach

We are honored to share that True Wealth Ventures was recently selected to the ImpactAssets 50TM, a global list of 50 fund managers across asset classes. The IA50 2022 recognizes a diverse group of impact investment fund managers who demonstrate a commitment to generating positive social, environmental and financial impact. The goal of the database is to provide an easy way to identify experienced impact investment firms and explore the landscape of potential investment options. Last year, we were chosen for the IA 50 2021 Emerging Impact Manager list but are proud to have graduated to the main list this year, now that we have more assets under management.

Strong Fund I Portfolio Performance

We are so proud of our Fund I portfolio companies: all twelve investments are active and in revenue. We believe that such a “zero loss ratio” is quite rare at this point in an early-stage fund’s life – especially after weathering a global pandemic. The companies’ average revenue growth from 2020-2021 was 272%, with no single company growing less than 50%!

True Wealth Ventures is a seed stage venture firm, led by two Austin-based women, Sara Brand and Kerry Rupp. The fund’s focus is on women-led companies improving human and/or environmental health. Their investment thesis is that women-led companies perform better financially, as reported in many studies, yet are an untapped market with 2% of venture dollars going to women-led start-ups and approximately 15% to those with a single woman on the founding team in 2021. The firm was selected to the ImpactAssets 50 2021 and then IA 50 2022 as a Fund Manager, a global list of impact fund managers across sectors and asset classes, and just published their first impact report (see a summary view). The firm’s $20M Fund I closed in 2018 as the largest VC fund raised to-date with an explicit gender lens strategy. All 12 Fund I companies are active and in revenue, demonstrating the perseverance of these women entrepreneurs, the importance of the problems they are solving, and the Fund’s investment thesis. True Wealth Ventures has raised ~75% of a targeted $30M+ Fund II since their first close in May 2021 and has since made three investments. The firm is conducting a final close this May.
